Esprit De Kayjay APG Victory

Esprit De Kayjay, a 3YO brown gelding by Brioso Hanover from Promise 3, 2:03.6 2:01 TT produced a withering burst over the final 100 metres to win the Australian Pacing Gold 3YO Final on Saturday night at Mooney Valley.

Aided by a cool drive from leading reinsmen Gavin Lang and a good run in transit, Esprit De Kayjay made the most of a the sprint lane produce and exciting and convincing victory.

Brioso Hanover, the Yirribee based sire of Esprit De Kayjay came to Australia 2003 and was a world-record holder by Cam's Card Shark from a half-sister to Artiscape.

Brioso Hanover is proving his worth as a promising sire. From his three crops to the races, 181 foals in total, he now has 84 starters for 38 winners of $743,701 – that's 45% winners/starters, and 21% winners/foals.

What's most encouraging is this past season's 2YO results- 7 individual 2YO winners from a crop of 68 foals, including a Breeders Crown finalist in Royal Surprise and of course an APG champion in Esprit De Kayjay will be a further boost to his stocks as he continues a meritorious rise.

Sires Stakes Double for Yirribee Stallions

Yirribee based Stallions River Khan and Brioso Hanover (US) produced the first two Sires Stakes 2YO winners in NSW at Young on Saturday.

STORMY WARRIOR (Brioso Hanover-Knight Credit) made it a double for trainer-driver Steve Maguire in the NSW 2YO Sires Stakes Colts and Geldings feature.

STORMY WARRIOR took his record to three wins and three places in only six starts and led from start to finish justifying his short price at $1.40 favourite.

Bother RHIANNA RIVER and STORMY WARRIOR were bred and sold by Yirribee Pacing Stud and are out of resident Yirribee Broodmares.

Hurricane Jett Set to Fire

Hurricane Jett, the horse many consider Victoria’s best male two-year-old, will get his first look at Moonee Valley this Friday night.

The son of River Khan, who has won two of his three starts, will make his metropolitan debut in the colts and geldings division of the $20,000 Youthful Stakes (1609m).

The Jayne Davies-trained colt will be having his first start since finishing an unlucky second to Emjayem Grand, beaten just a neck, in the $100,000 Bathurst Gold Crown final on March 29.

Prior to that, Hurricane Jett, who is part-owned by former Collingwood champion Nathan Buckley, won his only two starts – at Geelong and Bathurst – by a combined total of 27 metres.

Davies said her young star had come through his trip north in fine fettle, proven by a comfortable trial win at Warragul last weekend, and expected a big run from him on Friday night.

“They (the stewards) put him out of the draw up there and I wanted to get him back in the draw, so he had to trial him, and he won that not fully extended, so he appears to have come through the trip away great,” the Clyde-based trainer said.

“He’s one of those horses that nothing phases. He’s nice and relaxed and he conserves all his energy. That’s probably why he can run a bit, because he doesn’t seem to worry about a thing.”

While TAB Sportsbet has installed Hurricane Jett the raging $1.70 favourite in its fixed odds market after drawing well in barrier four under the preferential barrier draw conditions of the race, a quality field has been assembled for the 1609-metre scamper.

Yirribee To the Fore at Leeton

Yirribee bred horses stole the show at leeton on the first night of their rich Breeders plate carnival. The night started off with a bang when the exceptional Upward Ever Upward gave his rivals a pacing lesson in his 25mtr victory. Sent straight to the lead from the start the 4yo son of Brioso Hanover merely cruised thru the first half of the race before his promising trainer driver Brett Woodhouse allowed him a little more rein going past the 600mtr point. From here on Upward Ever Upward went thru his next 2 sections in 28.4 and 28.6, simply unheard of for a CO around leeton. Rating 1.59.9 he was a whisker outside the track record and looks to have a strangle hold on the final to be held New Years Day. Yirribee bred and trained horses contested the 2 heats of the breeders plate. In the first heat we were represented by Stormy Warrior (Brioso Hanover - Knight Credit) and Eternal River (River Khan - Eternal Love). Both qualified for the final with Stormy Warrior finishing 3rd after doing all the work outside the leader and Eternal River working home without much racing room in the straight to finish 5th. In the second heat it was a Yirribee quinella. Rhianna River held on to defeat the fast finishing Jerrys Deception. Rhianna River a filly by River Khan out of Supreme Lobell and Jerrys Deception a filly by Jeremy Lobell out of Looks Deceive both look to be major players in this years final. Rhianna River led from starting gate to finishing post rating a handy 2.02.6 Yirribee will be represented by 4 juveniles in the rich final to be held on New Years day and it wouldnt suprise to see a Yirribee 1 -2 - 3 finish!!

Old River Too Good

River Khan 3yo Old River showed his strength and class when a comprehensive winner at Wagga on Saturday night. With the power on early, Old River was angled off the pegs into the running line after the first 200mtrs. Entering the back straight for the last time Old River was angled three wide going past the 600mtr and joined the leaders quickly before careering away as they entered the lane and posted a comfortable victory rating 2.00.7. Saturdays win was the ultra consitent 3yo's 3rd win and took his record to 12 starts 3 wins 5 seconds and 1 third with $15,000 in prizemoney. A NSW Sires Stake heat winnner at 2, he looks sure to prove himself a worthy contender for the 3yo series when it comes round in 2008.
